Tell Yourself The Truth… Day One

Tell Yourself the Truth.jpg

Prepare yourself!  The only sure thing about your day today, is that there will be MANY voices clamoring for your attention…  And all those voices will have distinct opinions about what kind of person you should be.  Those voices will come from advertisers, bosses, friends….  Even from folks that are no longer in your life at all but at one crucial moment, a long time ago, said something to you that still shapes your self-image today.

Some of those voices may be encouraging! But the majority of them will not.  That is why it is vitally important that you gain this crucial skill: You must be able to sift through all those voices, and identify the ONE that matters most.

That’s right.  There is only ONE voice that should be shaping your self-identity, and that is the voice of the one who MADE you.  Before you give attention to ANYONES opinion about you, you need to know what God has to say.  Once you know who you are in God’s eyes, than you can clearly judge the validity of the other voices in your life.

The problem is, most of us FEEL like a real mess.  So when those voices out there TELL us we are a mess, we take that in as the truth!  But, if you are a Christian, here is the most vital truth you could possibly hear:

God sees you through the lens of Jesus!  And here is what that means:

  • Where you have failed, Jesus has succeeded!

  • Where you have earned punishment, Jesus has taken that punishment for you!

  • Where you have acted shamefully, Jesus has taken that shame on himself!

This means that God doesn’t see you as a failure…  He doesn’t see you as guilty…  He doesn’t see you as shameful…  Because Jesus took all of that on himself, now God sees you as you TRULY are.  He sees the REAL, and FINAL you…  The finished product!  The completed sculpture!

Now to be sure, over the course of your life God is going to have to chisel away some things to get to that finished sculpture.  But, you need to know that when he looks at you, he doesn’t see an ugly lump of clay…  He sees the real you!  He sees you as you were always meant to be.  He sees you NOW, as the man or woman that he is creating in you.

It is vital that you begin to see yourself as he sees you, through the lens of Christ! So we are going to spend a week together, really FOCUSING on seven different passages that tell us the truth about who we REALLY are in Gods eyes…

So here is the first one…  Say this out loud, Christian:

"I am chosen by God in Christ!"

Hear this truth from the word of the Lord:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
Ephesians 1:3-6 (ESV)

So before you walk out the door today all those voices start to bombard you, take a moment to focus in on the ONE voice that matters.  In the midst of all those lies you are going to hear take a moment to consider these truths about yourself:

  • The truth is that in Christ, you are an adopted son or daughter of the Most High God!

  • The truth is that as an adopted child, you are a chosen child!

  • The truth is that you were chosen for adoption before the foundation of the world!

  • The truth is that your father sought you and set his love upon you before you did anything good or bad!

  • The truth is, you are NOT worthless…  You are blessed with every spiritual blessing!

  • The truth is, you are NOT alone or abandoned… You are chosen and pursued!

  • The truth is, you are NOT despised….  You are beloved!

In Christ, all of those things are true! So REMIND yourself of that fact…  Tell yourself the truth throughout the day today, and see what kind of difference it makes!

I’ll see you tomorrow!
