Tell Yourself the Truth... Day Two

So…  How did it go yesterday?

When you realized that you made a mistake at work, did you listen to those same old voices in your head, reminding you how stupid you are and how you always make rookie mistakes?  Or did you listen to the voice that says, “You are blessed in Christ with every spiritual blessing…  You have everything you need to do all the work I have called you to”?

I wonder which of those voices is going to make you a better worker... a better student…  a better spouse?  I wonder which one will make you a happier person?  I wonder which one better honors the God who made you in His image?

Well, If you fell into some old traps and listened to some lying voices yesterday, let’s just get back up on the horse and start fresh!  His mercies are new every morning, right? (see Lamentations 3:23 if you don’t think so)

Tell yourself the truth today, with this word from the Lord:

… you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus"
                                                                                          Ephesians 2:1-6(ESV)

We live in the midst of a culture of death.  We are truly among a people whose lives are controlled by the looming specter of death!  Either we live in fear of death and horde resources for ourselves at the expense of others, or we seek to cram as much pleasure as we can into every waking moment, in case we die tomorrow.  A culture of death is the natural state of a people who have become disconnected from their creator.

Since we live in a culture of death, we tend to speak death to one another.  Thats where all those negative voices are coming from that are in your head every day…  And we buy what they are selling us, and indulge in the “passions of the flesh” that are the only consolation that a culture of death can offer.

But in Christ, you are NOT a dead man walking.  In fact, as you prepare yourself to head out into the world today, tell yourself the truth, for a moment.  Say this out loud:

“I am alive together with Christ"

Amid all the voices of death telling you that you aren’t pretty enough, rich enough, smart enough, talented enough, patient enough, tough enough, strong enough….  I want you to hear only one voice today.  The one that says:

“I have loved you with a great love! Even before you knew me, I loved you.  Even when you rejected me I loved you.  Even when you insisted on driving yourself down further into that culture of death, I raised you up! I raised you up, so you would be with me…"

Family, let me just remind you one more time before you head out the door:  Because Jesus triumphed over death, you are alive!  You are alive together with Christ, and you can now go speak life into the dying world around you!

I’m praying for you today!
